Lessons Learned

Lessons Learned:

  • Use a top down approach to develop your strategy.

       Evaluating the business drivers first.

Bottom up would be starting with requirements.

  • Focus on smaller project phases with definable ROI at each step.

  • Modify your strategy presentation based on your current organizational structure (i.e. focus on financial aspects for CFO, technical/business drivers for CIO, security for CISO).

  • Find an executive sponsor who truly understands and agrees with the business drivers for the project.

  • If you don’t have the expertise or current staff resources to develop your strategic roadmap, find creditable outside resources to help (someone who has been in the trenches before).

Best Practice in this area:

-   If you let the vendors know how you will be evaluating their solutions you will get better RFQ responses.
